WASHINGTON, D.C., Jun. 20, 1994 (AMP) — USA 94 : The Netherlands defeated Saudi Arabia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday night at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C..
Saudi Arabia had started off well by taking the lead in the 18th minute with a goal by midfielder Fuad Amin. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Dutchs nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Jonk '50 and Taument '86).
The result put the Dutch top of Group F with 3 points. In their next game, the Netherlands will meet second-placed Belgium at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium on June 25, while Saudi Arabia will face Morocco.
