KASHIMA, Jun. 2, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Argentina defeated Nigeria by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Kashima Soccer Stadium.
Nigeria made the Argentines doubt themselves for forty-five minutes. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Argentine forward Gabriel Batistuta in the 63rd minute.
The result put the Argentine top of Group F with 3 points. In their next game, Argentina will meet England at the Kashima Soccer Stadium on June 7, while Nigeria will face Sweden.
