World Cup 2002 : England draw 1-1 with Sweden

SAITAMA, Jun. 2, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : England tied 1-1 with Sweden (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday night at the Saitama Stadium 2002 in Saitama.

The Englishs started off well by taking the lead thanks to English defender Sol Campbell in the 24th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Sweden with a saving goal from Swedish midfielder Niclas Alexandersson in the 59th minute.

The result left both teams tied in the second place of Group F with one point. In their next game, Sweden will meet Nigeria at the Saitama Stadium 2002 on June 7, while England will face Argentina.
