KAISERSLAUTERN, Jun. 12, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Australia defeated Japan by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday afternoon at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern.
Tim Cahill scored dual goals
Japan had started off well by taking the lead in the 26th minute with a goal by midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Australians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Cahill '84, '89 and Aloisi '90).
The result put the Australians top of Group F with 3 points. In their next game, Australia will meet Brazil at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion on June 18, while Japan will face Croatia.
