PRETORIA, Jun. 16, 2010 (AMP) — South Africa 2010 : Uruguay defeated South Africa by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
Diego Forlán scored dual goals
Uruguay dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Diego Forlán in the 24th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Uruguayans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Forlán '80/penalty and Pereira '90).
The result put the Uruguayans top of Group A with 4 points. South Africa is bottom with one point. In their last game, Uruguay will meet second-placed Mexico at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on June 22, while South Africa will face France.
