AFCON 2017 : Algeria hold Zimbabwe to 2-2
FRANCEVILLE, Jan. 15, 2017 (AMP) — Gabon 2017 : Algeria tied 2-2 with Zimbabwe (halftime: 1-2), in a AFCON group stage game on Sunday afternoon at the Stade de Franceville.
The Zimbabweans started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Mahachi ('17) and Mushekwi ('29 on penalty) while the Algerians only scored once Mahrez ('12). However, even though they were leading 2-1 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Algeria with a saving goal from Algerian midfielder Riyad Mahrez in the 82nd minute.
The result left both teams on top of Group B with one point. In their next game, Zimbabwe will meet Senegal at the Stade de Franceville on January 19, while Algeria will face Tunisia.
