Championship (Week 39) : Newcastle beats Wigan Athletic 2-1

ENGLAND, Apr. 1, 2017 (AMP) — Championship / Match day 39: After their 0-0 draw against Birmingham City on March 18, the Magpies returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic this Saturday.

Newcastle dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Dwight Gayle in the 36th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Magpies further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Ritchie in the 57th minute.

Newcastle United remains in first place with 81 points from 39 games, one point ahead of runner-up Brighton and Hove Albion FC.
