DALLAS, Sep. 7, 2014 (AMP) — USA 2014 : Guatemala defeated Belize by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a Copa Centroamericana group stage game (Group A) on Sunday night at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Guatemala dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by C. Ruiz in the 26th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Guatemalans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Ávila in the 51st minute.
The result put the Guatemalans top of the group with 6 points. Belize is bottom with no points. In their last game, Guatemala will meet second-placed Honduras at the Cotton Bowl on September 10, while Belize will face El Salvador.
