OFC Nations Cup 2002 : Tahiti defeats Solomon Islands 3-2
AUCKLAND, Jul. 7, 2002 (AMP) — New Zealand 2002 : Tahiti defeated the Solomon Islands by a score of 3-2 (halftime: 1-2), in a OFC Nations Cup group stage game on Sunday at the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland.
The Solomon Islands had started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Daudau ('8) and Menapi ('25), while Tahiti only scored once Booene ('42). Trailing 2-1 at half time, the Tahitians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Tagawa '57 and Fatupua-Lecaill '90).
The result put the Tahitians second in Group B with 3 points. The Solomon Islands is third with one point. In their last game, Tahiti will meet Papua New Guinea at the North Harbour Stadium on July 9, while the Solomon Islands will face New Zealand.
