World Cup 1950 : Sweden held to a 2-2 draw by Paraguay but qualifies for next round
CURITIBA, Jun. 29, 1950 (AMP) — Brazil 50 : Sweden tied 2-2 with Paraguay (halftime: 2-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Estádio Vila Capanema in Curitiba.
The Swedishs started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Sundqvist ('17) and Palmér ('26) while the Paraguayans only scored once López ('35). However, even though they were leading 2-1 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Paraguay with a saving goal from Paraguayan forward César López Fretes in the 74th minute.
