World Cup 1954 : Germany beats Turkey 4-1
BERN, Jun. 17, 1954 (AMP) — Switzerland 54 : Germany defeated Turkey by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday night at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern.
Turkish forward Suat Mamat opened the score in the 2nd minute, before seeing Germany catch up in the 14th minute thanks to Hans Schäfer. 1-1 at half time. The Germans eventually won the game in the second period with three more goals by Klodt ('52), Walter ('60) and Morlock ('84).
The result put the Germans second in Group 2 with 2 points. In their last game, Germany will meet group leaders Hungary at the Wankdorf Stadium on June 20, while Turkey will face South Korea.
