ZURICH, Jun. 17, 1954 (AMP) — Switzerland 54 : Hungary defeated South Korea by a big score of 9-0 (halftime: 4-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday night at the Hardturm in Zurich.
Sándor Kocsis scored tripple goals
Hungary dominated the first half thanks to goals from Puskás ('12), Lantos ('18) and Kocsis ('24, '36). Leading 4-0 at the break, the Hungarians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring five times (Kocsis '50, Czibor '59, Palotás '75, '83 and Puskás '89).
The result put the Hungarians top of Group 2 with 2 points. In their last game, Hungary will meet second-placed Germany at the Hardturm on June 20, while South Korea will face Turkey.
