World Cup 1958 : Germany beats Argentina 3-1
MALMö, Jun. 8, 1958 (AMP) — Sweden 58 : Germany defeated Argentina by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 2-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday night at the Malmö Stadion in Malmö.
Helmut Rahn scored dual goals
Argentina opened the score in the score in the 3rd minute thanks to Omar Oreste Corbatta, before Germany regained the advantage with Rahn ('32) and Seeler ('42). Leading 2-1 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Rahn in the 79th minute.
The result put the Germans top of Group 1 with 2 points. In their next game, Germany will meet third-placed Czechoslovakia at the Malmö Stadion on June 11, while Argentina will face Northern Ireland.
