World Cup 1958 : Germany and Czechoslovakia play to a 2-2 draw
HELSINGBORG, Jun. 11, 1958 (AMP) — Sweden 58 : Germany tied 2-2 with Czechoslovakia (halftime: 0-2), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Olympia in Helsingborg.
The Czechoslovaks started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Dvořák ('24 on penalty) and Zikán ('42). However, even though they were leading 2-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Germany with goals by Hans Schäfer ('60) and Helmut Rahn ('71).
The result put the Germans top of Group 1 with 3 points. Czechoslovakia is bottom with one point. In their last game, Germany will meet third-placed Northern Ireland at the Olympia on June 15, while Czechoslovakia will face Argentina.
