World Cup 1958 : Mexico and Wales play out 1-1 draw
SOLNA, Jun. 11, 1958 (AMP) — Sweden 58 : Mexico tied 1-1 with Wales (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Rasunda Stadium in Solna.
The Welshs started off well by taking the lead thanks to Welsh forward Ivor Allchurch in the 32nd minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Mexico with a saving goal from Mexican defender Jaime Belmonte in the 89th minute.
The result put the Welsh second in Group 3 with 2 points. Mexico is bottom with one point. In their last game, Wales will meet group leaders Sweden at the Rasunda Stadium on June 15, while Mexico will face Hungary.
