BORAS, Jun. 11, 1958 (AMP) — Sweden 58 : USSR defeated Austria by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at Ryavallen in Boras.
USSR dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Anatoli Ilyin in the 15th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Soviets further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Ivanov in the 62nd minute.
The result put the Soviet second in Group 4 with 3 points. Austria is bottom with no points. In their last game, USSR will meet group leaders Brazil at Ryavallen on June 15, while Austria will face England.
