LONDON, Jul. 16, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : England defeated Mexico by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium.
England dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Bobby Charlton in the 37th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Englishs further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Hunt in the 75th minute.
The result put the English top of Group 1 with 3 points. Mexico is bottom with one point. In their last game, England will meet third-placed France at Wembley Stadium on July 20, while Mexico will face Uruguay.
