SHEFFIELD, Jul. 12, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Germany defeated Switzerland by a big score of 5-0 (halftime: 3-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday night at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield.
Helmut Haller and Franz Beckenbauer scored dual goals
Germany dominated the first half thanks to goals from Held ('16), Haller ('21) and Beckenbauer ('40). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Beckenbauer '52 and Haller '77/penalty).
The result put the Germans top of Group 2 with 2 points. In their next game, Germany will meet Argentina at the Hillsborough Stadium on July 16, while Switzerland will face Spain.
