MEXICO CITY, Jun. 3, 1970 (AMP) — Mexico 70 : Belgium defeated El Salvador by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
Wilfried Van Moer scored dual goals
Belgium dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Wilfried Van Moer in the 12th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Belgians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Wilfried Van Moer '54 and Lambert '76/penalty).
The result put the Belgians top of Group 1 with 2 points. In their next game, Belgium will meet second-placed USSR at the Estadio Azteca on June 6, while El Salvador will face Mexico.
