GELSENKIRCHEN, Jun. 30, 1974 (AMP) — Germany 74 : The Netherlands defeated East Germany by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup second round game on Sunday afternoon at the Parkstadion in Gelsenkirchen.
The Netherlands dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Johan Neeskens in the 7th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Dutchs further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Rensenbrink in the 59th minute.
The result put the Dutch top of Group A with 4 points. East Germany is third with no points. In their last game, the Netherlands will meet second-placed Brazil at the Parkstadion on July 3, while East Germany will face Argentina.
