HAMBURG, Jun. 18, 1974 (AMP) — Germany 74 : Germany defeated Australia by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday afternoon at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.
Germany dominated the first half thanks to goals from Overath ('12) and Cullmann ('34). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Müller in the 53rd minute.
The result put the Germans top of Group A with 4 points. Australia is bottom with no points. In their last game, Germany will meet second-placed East Germany at the Volksparkstadion on June 22, while Australia will face Chile.
