HAMBURG, Jun. 22, 1974 (AMP) — Germany 74 : East Germany defeated Germany by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday night at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by German forward Jürgen Sparwasser in the 77th minute.

East Germany and Germany both qualify for the next round of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
