CORDOBA, Jun. 14, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : The Netherlands defeated Austria by a big score of 5-1 (halftime: 3-0), in a World Cup second round game on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras in Cordoba.
Johnny Rep scored dual goals
The Netherlands dominated the first half thanks to goals from Brandts ('6), Rensenbrink ('35 on penalty) and Rep ('36). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Dutchs further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Rep '53 and Willy van de Kerkhof '82).
The result put the Dutch top of Group A with 2 points. In their next game, the Netherlands will meet second-placed Germany at the Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras on June 18, while Austria will face Italy.
