BUENOS AIRES, Jun. 21, 1978 (AMP) — Argentina 78 : The Netherlands defeated Italy by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup second round game on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.
Italy had started off well by taking the lead in the 19th minute with an own goal by defender Ernie Brandts. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Dutchs nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Brandts '49 and Haan '76).
