World Cup 1982 : Spain beats Yugoslavia 2-1
VALENCIA, Jun. 20, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : Spain defeated Yugoslavia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday night at the Mestalla Stadium in Valencia.
Yugoslav midfielder Ivan Gudelj opened the score in the 10th minute, before seeing Spain catch up in the 14th minute thanks to Juanito penalty kick. 1-1 at half time. The Spaniards eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Saura in the 66th minute.
The result put the Spaniard top of Group E with 3 points. Yugoslavia is bottom with one point. In their last game, Spain will meet third-placed Northern Ireland at the Mestalla Stadium on June 25, while Yugoslavia will face Honduras.
