VALENCIA, Jun. 25, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : Northern Ireland defeated Spain by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday night at the Mestalla Stadium in Valencia.

Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Irish forward Gerry Armstrong in the 47th minute.

Northern Ireland and Spain both qualify for the next round of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
