MONTERREY, Jun. 3, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Portugal defeated England by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Tuesday afternoon at the Estadio Tecnológico in Monterrey.
England made the Portugueses doubt themselves for forty-five minutes. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Portuguese midfielder Carlos Manuel in the 76th minute.
The result put the Portuguese top of Group F with 2 points. In their next game, Portugal will meet second-placed Poland at the Estadio Tecnológico on June 7, while England will face Morocco.
