SAN NICOLáS DE LOS GARZA, Jun. 7, 1986 (AMP) — Mexico 86 : Poland defeated Portugal by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Polish forward Włodzimierz Smolarek in the 68th minute.
The result put the Pole top of Group F with 3 points. Portugal is second with 2 points. In their last game, Poland will meet England at the Estadio Universitario on June 11, while Portugal will face Morocco.
