MILAN, Jun. 10, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Germany defeated Yugoslavia by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday night at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan.
Lothar Matthäus scored dual goals
Germany dominated the first half thanks to goals from Matthäus ('28) and Klinsmann ('39). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Matthäus '64 and Völler '70).
The result put the Germans top of Group D with 2 points. In their next game, Germany will meet third-placed the United Arab Emirates at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on June 15, while Yugoslavia will face Colombia.
