MILAN, Jun. 15, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Germany defeated the United Arab Emirates by a big score of 5-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday night at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan.
Rudi Völler scored dual goals
Germany dominated the first half thanks to goals from Völler ('35) and Klinsmann ('37). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Matthäus '47, Bein '58 and Völler '75).
The result put the Germans top of Group D with 4 points. UAE is bottom with no points. In their last game, Germany will meet second-placed Colombia at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on June 19, while the United Arab Emirates will face Yugoslavia.
