World Cup 1990 : England and Ireland play to a 1-1 draw
CAGLIARI, Jun. 11, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : England tied 1-1 with Ireland (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday night at the Stadio Sant'Elia in Cagliari.
The Englishs started off well by taking the lead thanks to English forward Gary Lineker in the 8th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Ireland with a saving goal from Irish midfielder Kevin Sheedy in the 73rd minute.
The result left both teams on top of Group F with one point. In their next game, Ireland will meet Egypt at the Stadio Sant'Elia on June 17, while England will face the Netherlands.
