World Cup 1990 : Ireland and Netherlands qualify for the Round of 16
PALERMO, Jun. 21, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Ireland tied 1-1 with the Netherlands (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday night at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo.
The Dutchs started off well by taking the lead thanks to Dutch midfielder Ruud Gullit in the 10th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Ireland with a saving goal from Irish forward Niall Quinn in the 71st minute.
