World Cup 1994 : Sweden beats Russia 3-1
PONTIAC, Jun. 24, 1994 (AMP) — USA 94 : Sweden defeated Russia by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday night at the Silverdome in Pontiac.
Martin Dahlin scored dual goals
Russian forward Oleg Salenko opened the score in the 4th minute on penalty, before seeing Sweden catch up in the 37th minute thanks to Tomas Brolin penalty kick. 1-1 at half time. The Swedishs eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Dahlin ('59, '81).
The result put the Swedish second in Group B with 4 points. Russia is bottom with no points. In their last game, Sweden will meet group leaders Brazil at the Silverdome on June 28, while Russia will face Cameroon.
