CHICAGO, Jun. 26, 1994 (AMP) — USA 94 : Bulgaria defeated Greece by a big score of 4-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday at the Soldier Field in Chicago.
Hristo Stoichkov scored dual goals
Bulgaria dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Hristo Stoichkov in the 5th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Bulgarians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Stoichkov '55/penalty, Letchkov '65 and Borimirov '90).
The result put the Bulgarians third in Group D with 3 points. Greece is bottom with no points. In their last game, Bulgaria will meet group leaders Argentina at the Soldier Field on June 30, while Greece will face Nigeria.
