One goal for both sides in the first half, Vieri ('10) for Italy, Salas ('45) for Chile and one each in the second, Baggio ('85 on penalty) for Italy, Salas ('49) for Chile.
The result left both teams on top of Group B with one point. In their next game, Chile will meet Austria at the Stade Chaban Delmas on June 17, while Italy will face Cameroon.
