MONTPELLIER, Jun. 17, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Italy defeated Cameroon by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier.
Christian Vieri scored dual goals
Italy dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Luigi Di Biagio in the 7th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Italians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Vieri '75, '89).
The result put the Italians top of Group B with 4 points. Cameroon is bottom with one point. In their last game, Italy will meet third-placed Austria at the Stade de la Mosson on June 23, while Cameroon will face Chile.
