World Cup 1998 : Nigeria and Paraguay qualify for the Round of 16
TOULOUSE, Jun. 24, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : Paraguay defeated Nigeria by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday night at the Toulouse Stadium.
Paraguayan defender Celso Ayala opened the score in the 1st minute, before seeing Nigeria catch up in the 10th minute thanks to Wilson Oruma. 1-1 at half time. The Paraguayans eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Miguel Ángel Benítez ('58) and Cardozo ('86).
