MARSEILLE, Jun. 15, 1998 (AMP) — France 98 : England defeated Tunisia by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Monday afternoon at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille.
England dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Alan Shearer in the 43rd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Englishs further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Scholes with one minute left in regular time.
The result put the English top of Group G with 3 points. In their next game, England will meet Romania at the Stade Vélodrome on June 22, while Tunisia will face Colombia.
