YOKOHAMA, Jun. 9, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Japan defeated Russia by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Sunday night at the International Stadium Yokohama.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with a saving goal by Japanese midfielder Junichi Inamoto in the 51st minute.
The result put the Japanese top of Group H with 4 points. Russia is second with 3 points. In their last game, Japan will meet Tunisia at the International Stadium Yokohama on June 14, while Russia will face Belgium.
