SHIZUOKA, Jun. 14, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Belgium defeated Russia by a score of 3-2 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Friday afternoon at the Shizuoka Stadium.
Belgium dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Johan Walem in the 7th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Belgians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Sonck '78 and Wilmots '82).
