World Cup 2014 : Ivory Coast beats Japan 2-1
RECIFE, Jun. 14, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : Ivory Coast defeated Japan by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday night at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife.
Japan had started off well by taking the lead in the 16th minute with a goal by midfielder Keisuke Honda. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Ivorians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Bony '64 and Gervinho '66).
The result put the Ivorians second in Group C with 3 points. In their next game, Ivory Coast will meet group leaders Colombia at the Arena Pernambuco on June 19, while Japan will face Greece.
