MANAUS, Jun. 14, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : Italy defeated England by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday night at the Arena da Amazonia in Manaus.

Italian midfielder Claudio Marchisio opened the score in the 35th minute, before seeing England catch up in the 37th minute thanks to Daniel Sturridge. 1-1 at half time. The Italians eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Balotelli in the 50th minute.

The result put the Italians second in Group D with 3 points. In their next game, Italy will meet group leaders Costa Rica at the Arena da Amazonia on June 20, while England will face Uruguay.
