SãO PAULO, Jun. 19, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : Uruguay defeated England by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Thursday afternoon at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo.
Luis Suárez scored dual goals
Uruguay dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Luis Suárez in the 39th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Uruguayans further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Suárez with just 5 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Uruguayans third in Group D with 3 points. England is bottom with no points. In their last game, Uruguay will meet second-placed Italy at the Arena Corinthians on June 24, while England will face Costa Rica.
