World Cup 2014 : Costa Rica beats Uruguay 3-1
FORTALEZA, Jun. 14, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : Costa Rica defeated Uruguay by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Castelao Stadium in Fortaleza.
Uruguay had started off well by taking the lead in the 24th minute with a goal by forward Edinson Cavani on penalty. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Costa Ricans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Campbell '54, Duarte '57 and Ureña '84).
The result put the Costa Ricans top of Group D with 3 points. In their next game, Costa Rica will meet Italy at the Castelao Stadium on June 20, while Uruguay will face England.
