Championship (Week 24) : Newcastle defeats Forest 3-1
ENGLAND, Dec. 30, 2016 (AMP) — Championship / Match day 24: After losing 0-1 to Sheffield Wednesday on December 26, the Magpies returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest this Friday.
Dwight Gayle scored dual goals
Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie opened the score in the 4th minute, before seeing Nottingham Forest catch up in the 29th minute thanks to Dumitru Nicolao. 1-1 at half time. The Magpies eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Gayle ('63, '80).
Newcastle United climbed to first place with 52 points from 24 games, one point ahead of runner-up Brighton and Hove Albion FC, which has a game in hand.
