CHICAGO, Jun. 7, 2016 (AMP) — Centenario : The United States defeated Costa Rica by a big score of 4-0 (halftime: 3-0), in a Copa América group stage game on Tuesday night at the Soldier Field in Chicago.
The United States dominated the first half thanks to goals from Dempsey ('9 on penalty), Jones ('37) and Wood ('42). Leading 3-0 at the break, the Americans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Zusi with just 3 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Americans top of Group A with 3 points. Costa Rica is bottom with one point. In their last game, the United States will meet third-placed Paraguay at the Soldier Field on June 11, while Costa Rica will face Colombia.
