AUCKLAND, Jul. 6, 2002 (AMP) — New Zealand 2002 : Australia defeated Vanuatu by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a OFC Nations Cup group stage game on Saturday at the Ericsson Stadium in Auckland.
Vanuatu made the Australians doubt themselves for forty-five minutes. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with goals by Mori ('69) and Despotovski ('85).
The result put the Australians top of Group A with 3 points. In their next game, Australia will meet third-placed New Caledonia at the Ericsson Stadium on July 8, while Vanuatu will face the Fiji.
