AUCKLAND, Jul. 6, 2002 (AMP) — New Zealand 2002 : The Fiji defeated New Caledonia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a OFC Nations Cup group stage game on Saturday at the Ericsson Stadium in Auckland.
The Fiji dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Toma in the 23rd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Fijians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Bukaudi in the 49th minute.
The result put the Fijians second in Group A with 3 points. In their next game, the Fiji will meet Vanuatu at the Ericsson Stadium on July 8, while New Caledonia will face Australia.
