SANTIAGO, May. 30, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Chile defeated Switzerland by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a World Cup group stage game on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Nacional de Chile in Santiago.
Leonel Sánchez scored dual goals
Swiss forward Rolf Wüthrich opened the score in the 6th minute, before seeing Chile catch up in the 44th minute thanks to Leonel Sánchez. 1-1 at half time. The Chilians eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Ramírez ('51) and Sánchez ('55).
The result put the Chilians top of Group 2 with 2 points. In their next game, Chile will meet Italy at the Estadio Nacional de Chile on June 2, while Switzerland will face Germany.
