SANTIAGO, Jun. 2, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Chile defeated Italy by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a World Cup group stage game on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Nacional de Chile in Santiago.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with goals by Ramírez ('73) and Toro ('87).
The result put the Chilians top of Group 2 with 4 points. Italy is third with one point. In their last game, Chile will meet second-placed Germany at the Estadio Nacional de Chile on June 6, while Italy will face Switzerland.
